Pekanbaru, (Antarariau.com) - A female wild elephant is currently dying after being relocated from Rokan Hulu District to the Elephant Conservation Center in Siak District, Riau Province.
Since her arrival at the center on Monday, the elephant, which may be pregnant, has not been moving, eating nor drinking, stated Head of the Riau Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) Kemal Amas, here on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old elephant has been given intravenous liquid food supplements.
The elephant was one of the four that were relocated from Rokan Hulu to Siak at the request of Rokan Hulu District Head Achmad, since their habitat had been converted into plantations and residential areas.
The four elephants were anesthetized while being transferred to their new home by trucks.
