Rengat, Riau, Sept 21 (Antarariau.com) - A total of 763 people in the district of Indragiri Hulu (Inhu) are currently suffering respiratory problems due to haze that has polluted the region in the past two weeks.
"This is very dangerous. The haze has caused respiratory illnesses. Hundreds have sought medication in the hospital and several health care centers," head of the districts health service, H Suhardi, said here on Sunday, adding until now 763 had been registered seeking medication because of respiratory problems.
He said in the past two weeks the haze from forest and land fires covering the region had been very thick and starting from the second week of this month the situation had even worsened.
He said in connection with the situation he had already ordered all community health care centers in the region to stand-by round the clock.
"We have also called on parents to look after their children and not to allow them to go out without maskers," he said.
