Pekanbaru, Riau, (Antarariau.com) -- The Health and Tourism Office of Riau province is promoting the concept of healthcare services for tourism by improving local potentials.

"The healthcare programs promoted are based on fostering clean and healthy lifestyle and environmental health, among others," Head of Riaus Health Office Andra Sjafril said here on Monday.

He added that Rupat Bengkalis Island, where an eco-friendly health center was built, was chosen as the location of the pilot project to develop healthcare services to improve the tourism sector.

According to Sjafril, the development of the idea is more focused on fostering the practice of clean and healthy lifestyle in tourist sites and the improvement of the environment through cleanliness.

"We are also promoting sanitation, especially in tourist sites such as hotels, cottages, and homestays," he affirmed.

The program aims to map health-related issues in the region and to implement solutions that suit local potentials.

We are optimistic about transforming Rupat Island into Riaus potential icon to promote medical tourism and healthcare services to support tourism, Sjafril remarked.

The idea of developing Rupat Island as a tourist destination was integrated with providing healthcare services prior to the visit of the health minister to border areas such as Indragiri Hilir and Rokan Hilir.

"The healthcare center in Rupat Island is the site of this pilot program because it located in the coastal area, besides being a national tourist destination," Sjafril pointed out.
