Indonesia Commits To Manage HIV-AIDS

Jakarta, Nov 23 (Antarariau.com) - The Indonesian Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) has stated that the Indonesian government is committed to set up a program to control HIV/AIDS.

"Efforts such as providing diagnostic tests and Anti-Retro Viral (ARV) drugs in all provinces have been made," the head of BKKBN, Surya Chandra Surapat, said in a press release received by Antara here on Monday.

He noted that in June 2015, the cumulative number of people with HIV in Indonesia was estimated to have reached 178 thousand, while the number of AIDS cases was around 67 thousand.

The highest number of HIV/AIDS cases have occurred in the age group of 20 to 29 years, which is the reproductive age group.

Surya added that the management and control of HIV/AIDS is part of Indonesias national health development program.

According to him, the Indonesian government focuses on the management and control of HIV/ AIDS through prevention campaigns and programs to control the disease.

The prevention campaigns are carried out through information, education and communication (IEC) programs, which aim at changing behaviors.

"Besides, the control programs are carried out through treatment, care and assistance," he said.

Surya remarked that Indonesia has set a target to be free of HIV/AIDS cases by 2030.
