Pekanbaru, Riau (Antarariau.com) - As many as 24 hotspots were detected in five provinces on Sumatra Island on the morning of Friday, as per the information put out by the Pekanbaru meteorology station.
Till Thursday, there was only one hotspot, Slamet Riyadi of the meteorology station said.
West Sumatra and South Sumatra each had six hotspots, North Sumatra (5), Jambi (4), Lampung (2), and Riau (1).
The only hotspot in Riau was found in Rokan Hilir District.
Riau Province was declared a forest fire emergency status earlier this year. The alert will remain vaild till November to ensure optimum efforts to fight forest fires.
From January until September this year, a total of 3,743 hectares of forest, peatland and plantation areas had been gutted by fires, and 93 people have been named suspects in fire cases, including PT WSSI and PT SSP companies.
