Pekanbaru,Mar 25 (ANTARA)- State power company PT PLN will soon renew its tender for a coal-fired power plant (PLTU) with a capacity of 2x300 MW in Peranap, Indragiri Hulu, Riau, its planning manager for Riau and Riau Islands Yugo Riyatmo said. The power plant known as PLTU Mulut Tambang as it is located in the entrance of the coal mine, is in the pre-qualification phase, pending the renewed tender, while its feasibility study has already been done. The tender for the 2x300 MW PLTU in Peranap which in the beginning had a capacity of 2x150 MW, is an independent power producers project, since June 2008, was followed by four participants, namely Qatar Konsorsium, PT Bukit Asam Konsorsium-PT Indonesia Power, PT Prima Jaya and PT Anugerah. It was won by the PT Bukit Asam-PT Indonesia Power consortium, a subsidiary of PLN. But the tender was officially protested by the Qatar Consortium in April 2009, as it has been allegedly packed with corrupt, collusive, and nepotistic (KKN) tendencies and for declaring PLN the winner. The tenders committee decided to cancel the tender won by the Bukit Asam-Indonesia Power consortium. "PLN decided to raise the capacity to 2x300 MW considering the big potential of the coal in the location," he said. He said the PLTU would need at least 2.5 years for completion by 2012, at which time the power crisis facing Riau would have been overcome. Riau is currently still short of 105 MW, as the capacity of hydro-poweer plant PLTA Koto Panjang, the gas power plant PLTG Teluk Lembu, diesel power plant PLTD Teluk Lembu, PLTD Dumai and PLTG Riau Power reached only 168 MW. Head of the Riau mining and energy agency Abdul Lafiz said the tender needs to be renewed as soon as possible in view of the lingering energy crisis in Riau. "Riau has 2 billion tons of coal reserves, so that there is no problem," he said.
