Dumai, Riau, March 19 (Antara) - Police have successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle into Indonesia six tons of shallots in the waters of Bengkalis, Riau, early on Saturday.
"The Sea Rider patrol boat Bangau-5006 of the National Police s Water Police Directorate was suspicious of a ship in that waters. After investigation, police confiscated about six tons of shallots without official documents," commandant of the ship Bangau-5t006 Adjunct Commissioner Suryanto said on Saturday.
He said Sea Rider Bangau-5006 was conducting a routine patrol in that waters when it encountered KM M Paisal ship carrying about six tons of illegal shallots believed to come from Malaysia.
Police held the boat s skipper known by initials Pr with crew members. The boat and its confiscated shallots were taken to the pier of PT Patra Dock port in Jalan Dock Yard, West Dumai Subdistrict, Riau.
