Dumai, Riau (Antarariau.com) - Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto officially commissioned a new oleo-chemical plant PT Energi Sejahtera Mas in Dumai, Riau on Thursday.

The factory built at a cost of Rp4.77 trillion in the Industrial Estate of Lubuk Gaung, is owned by Sinar Mas Cepsa, a joint venture between Golden Agri Resources Ltd (GAR) of Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food and Cepsa.

Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food is the world's second largest palm oil company and Cepsa is a leading integrated energy company based in Madrid, Spain.

The oleo-chemical plant, which will produce fatty acid and alcohol fat with a capacity of 160,000 MT per year, will export its production to other Asian countries, East Europe, and West Europe.

The factory also produces 20,000 tons of fatty acid), and 20,000 tons of glycerine.

The ceremony was attended by Chairman of CEPSA and Energy Minister of the United Arab Emirates Suhail Al Mazrouei, Chairman of Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food Franky O. Widjaja, CEO of Sinar Mas CEPSA Kung Chee Wan, Spain Ambassador to Indonesia, Riau Governor Arsyadjuliandi Rachman, Mayor of Dumai Zulkifli As, Regent of Rokan Hilir Suyatno and other regional leaders.

"The joint venture will produce vegetable fatty alcohol and derivatives in global scale with sustainable supply of basic material,"Chairman of Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food Franky O. Widjaja said.

The factory, which has taken two years in construction, will use crude palm oil as the basic material that could be easily available in the country.

He said the factory is important as it could increased the added value of palm oil and create new jobs in Riau. The factory will create 300 new jobs and produce 160,000 MT of fatty alcohol a year

"We also have more than 480,000 hectares of plantation areas employing 170,700 Indonesian workers," Vice Chairman and CEO of Cepsa Pedro Mino.
